The inauguration of President Donald Trump on Friday was “by far the darkest day for American democracy in my lifetime,” according to New York University journalism professor Jay Rosen.
The renowned press critic expressed his opinion on Twitter, a popular social media platform. Trump’s inauguration, he argued, was even worse than the Watergate scandal brought down the Richard Nixon administration.
“I was 17 when during Watergate I started paying attention to politics,” tweeted Rosen. “This is by far the darkest day for American democracy in my lifetime.”

Meanwhile, ABC News anchor Terry Moran said following Trump’s speech that the new president’s rhetoric had “anti-Semitic” “overtones from the 1930s.”
For weeks, members of the media have struggled to cope with the fact that Trump is going to be the president for at least four years, while President Obama has been forced to vacate the White House for good.
