A new poll, released this afternoon, has Evan McMullin beating both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton in Utah.
McMullin 31% (+4)
Trump 27%
Clinton 24%
Johnson 5%https://t.co/1Xvzwmpmi2— Political Polls (@PpollingNumbers) October 19, 2016
If McMullin and his running mate Mindy Finn can win his home state of Utah, the 40-year-old will become the first independent to secure electoral-college votes in nearly half a century.
The Emerson Poll, released Wednesday afternoon, shows McMullin surging past Trump with a four-point margin, also leading Hillary Clinton by seven points.
A Rasmussen poll published Monday showed McMullin virtually tied with both Clinton and Trump. Another poll, released the same day by Salt Lake’s Y2 Analytics, also showed McMullin in a statistical tie.
The numbers reflect how Utah’s socially conservative Morman electorate has become increasingly disillusioned with Trump, seeking another alternative to Clinton.
