Donald Trump’s nominee for national security adviser is already controversial for his hardline views. And Monday, Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn’s son and namesake, Mike Flynn, Jr., is in the news for his statements supporting the Internet conspiracy theory known as “Pizzagate.”

The younger Flynn, who works with his dad at Flynn Intel Group, took to Twitter on Sunday to support a social media-based investigation into whether Hillary Clinton, her top adviser John Podesta, and a number of high-profile DC residents are involved in an international sex crimes ring, trafficking in children and performing satanic rites.

Flynn Jr aired his thoughts, specifically, in response to yesterday’s incident at Comet Ping Pong, in which a gunman, doing his own “independent investigation” into the DC pizzeria’s affiliation with the alleged criminal enterprise, threatened the pizzeria’s employees and customers with an AR-15 and fired his weapon inside the establishment.

According to Flynn, unless and until Pizzagate’s alleged conspirators are proven innocent, there is certainly cause for concern.

The link goes to a Tweet by Jack Posobiec, the “special projects director” of an organization billing itself as “Citizens4Trump.” Posobiec claimed that the gunman, 28 year old Edgar Welch of Salisbury, North Carolina, was part of a “false flag” operation designed to discredit the Pizzagate investigation and put an end to Internet news sources.

Posobiec is affiliated with the so-called “alt-right.” Flynn regularly Tweets recognizable alt-right figures, and even has an account on Gab, the alt-right Twitter alternative.

“Planted Comet Pizza Gunman will be used to push for censorship of independent news sources that are not corporate owned,” Posobiec Tweeted. He also hit out at Flynn, Jr.’s critics.

(Pizzagate’s adherent are pointing to Welch’s IMDB profile as proof that the gunman is an actor and was therefore “hired” to carry out the attack in order to deflect attention from the satanist child sex ring.)

CNN‘s Jake Tapper ripped into Flynn, Jr. in private messages, calling Flynn, Jr. irresponsible and urging him to delete his Tweet. Flynn, Jr. responded by taking Tapper’s direct messages public in a Tweet of his own.

Further DMs from Tapper denouncing Pizzagate also surfaced on Posobiec’s account.

“Michael, the police called it a fictitious conspiracy theory tonight. Does someone have to die before you take that shit seriously? Spreading this nonsense is dangerous,” Tapper messaged. “It is not the site of the satanic pedophilia cult. It is a fucking pizzeria.”

As for the senior Mike Flynn, he also set off conspiracy alarms just before the election, when he sent a Tweet that at first glance appeared to give an approving nod to Pizzagate theories. In his Tweet, Flynn mentioned “Sex Crimes w/ Children”:

But if you visit the link, Gen. Flynn is actually referring to allegations swirling around Bill Clinton’s ties to registered sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, whose sex crimes involving minors are well documented.

In his Tweet storm, Gen. Flynn later delved into the FBI’s investigation into emails found on Clinton confidante Huma Abedin’s home laptop.

As for Flynn, Jr. , he’s since doubled down on his accusations, retweeting a number of the Pizzagate conspiracy theorists, some of whom are now accusing DC police of lying to “cover up” the “unfolding” story.
