Another Republican leader is withholding his support for presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump. Governor Larry Hogan of Maryland recently announced that he’s “not a Trump fan” and doesn’t think Trump “should be the nominee.”
Hogan said he was not planning to attend the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. “I don’t even want to be involved,” he said. “It’s a mess. I hate the whole thing.”
Hogan is not alone. Ohio governor John Kasich declined to endorse Trump on Thursday, telling MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, “I just can’t do it.” Charlie Baker, the Republican governor of Massachusetts is also withholding his support for Trump, as are GOP Senators Lindsey Graham and Jeff Flake.
Trump’s antics over the past couple of weeks have made elected Republicans increasingly anxious about supporting their party’s nominee, especially as Trump’s poll numbers have fallen to all-time lows.
The Trump campaign has responded to the GOP’s growing reluctance to embrace him as the nominee in predictable fashion.
