Instagram user and former celebrity Mischa Barton has apologized for what is perhaps the most cringe-worthy Instagram post in the history of the internet.
Barton posted a response to the recent police shooting of Alton Sterling in Baton Rogue, Louisiana, writing: “This may have been going on forever in the United States but thank god the pigs get caught on camera now.”
The country needs “a real President,” she added, alongside a photo of herself in a pensively holding a glass of wine on a boat while wearing a bikini. Because it conveys sadness and reflection, or something. Barton has more than 285,000 followers on Instagram.
Critics rightly denounced the absurd juxtaposition of that photo and Barton’s message. Eventually, she deleted the post and issued a half-hearted apology. Barton said she was “sorry if my Instagram post went out of context.” She’s not perfect, after all.
Five police officers were killed in Dallas late Thursday in what appears to have been a coordinated attack on police, who had been providing protection for a protest against police violence.
