Donald Trump raised doubts about Hillary Clinton’s religion at a gathering of evangelical Christians leaders on Tuesday, saying: “We don’t know anything about Hillary in terms of religion.”
As it turns out, Trump has a long history of questioning other people’s faith. He became a leading figure, for example, in the so-called “birther” conspiracy movement that alleged that Obama was not born in the United States and may have been a secret Muslim. More recently, Trump suggested that Obama was sympathetic to the Islamic terrorist group ISIS.
On a related note, Clinton and her 2008 presidential campaign were not completely uninvolved in efforts to raise doubts about Obama’s religion. For example, Hillary awkwardly commented on Obama’s religion during an interview on 60 Minutes, saying there was no reason to believe Obama was a Muslim—”As far as I know,” she added with emphasis.
Oh, and there was the time she suggested during one of the Democratic debates that Obama may have had ties to the Islamic terrorist group Hamas.
