The Romanian hacker who claims to have accessed Hillary Clinton’s private email server pleaded guilty on Wednesday to charges of hacking and identitiy theft, a move that could pave the way for his cooperation with federal investigators.

Marcel Lazar, aka “Guccifer,” was extradited from Romania in March to face trial in the United States for allegedly hacking into email accounts belonging to prominent U.S. officials, including former President George W. Bush.

The hacker helped expose Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email address after leaking the email correspondence of her close aide Sidney Blumenthal, much of which involved the sketchy private intelligence operation he was running in Libya and other hotspots around the world.

The Clinton campaign has disputed claims that Guccifer hacked into the former secretary of state’s private email system, which is currently the subject of an FBI investigation.

Whatever information the hacker might be able to provide about the security of Clinton’s private server, one imagines that federal investigators will be eager to find out.
