A recent analysis of Google search terms offers a fascinating glimpse into mind of the American voter. Essentially, the analysis can tell us which search terms are popular in areas with a lot of Trump supporters, which search terms are popular in areas with a lot of Clinton supporters, and so on.

Bernie Sanders Loves Free Stuff (Video)

Here’s a brief explanation:

Thousands (maybe millions) of Google search terms are statistically associated with the frequency at which a state votes for Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, John Kasich, Hillary Clinton, or Bernie Sanders. Some of these terms make intuitive sense; others are mind-bending.

5 Celebrities Who Should Move to Canada Even If Trump Loses

Indeed, some of the search terms most correlated with each candidate might surprise you. Others, such as “transformers dark side” (Ted Cruz), will not.

Here are some of the most amusing results:

Donald Trump

  • “Kid’s choice awards”
  • “Degrassi season 13”
  • “Dining chair covers”
  • “Never had a boyfriend”
  • “L’Oréal excellence”

With results like these, you might expect Donald Trump to be polling a little better than he is among millennials.

Ted Cruz

  • “Easy enchilada recipe”
  • “Family photo poses”
  • “What is radius”
  • “Felt Christmas stocking”
  • “Funny random quotes”
  • “How to make balloon animals”
  • “Jalapeño burn”

Cruz has one of the most eclectic group of correlated search terms. It totally makes sense that he would be doing well among the “weird uncle who forwards funny quotes he found on the internet and makes half-decent balloon animals at birthday parties” demographic.

John Kasich

  • “Canadian international”
  • “Climate ride”
  • “Route 73”
  • “Investment corporation”

Perhaps all the Canada searches explains why these voters didn’t support Ted Cruz. Everything else is pretty boring, kind of like John Kasich.

Bernie Sanders

  • “Best oatmeal”
  • “Corn syrup substitute”
  • “CBS Amazing Race”
  • “Quinoa soup”
  • “Wonky”
  • “Heat pack”

The list of terms correlated with Sanders support is mostly food-related. In many ways, this year’s Democratic primary resembles a “best oatmeal” competition, so no surprise there.

Hillary Clinton

  • “Smackdown vs Raw 2011”
  • “Cheap bedroom furniture”
  • “Jaleel White dead”
  • “Nicki Minaj parents”
  • “Pink hoverboard”
  • “Thug videos”
  • “Red loafers”
  • “Robin Thicke new album”
  • “Nature shampoo”

By far the most charismatic list. Hillary seems to do very well among WWE viewers. Maybe this video has something to do with it? In case you were wondering, Jaleel White (the actor who played Steve Urkel on Family Matters) is not dead, as far as I can tell.
