Debbie Wasserman Schultz was ousted as chair of the Democratic National Committee in part because leaked emails revealed the DNC’s efforts to undermine the insurgent campaign of Bernie Sanders and protect establishment powerhouse Hillary Clinton.

Now Hillary is trying to return the favor by endorsing Debbie in her Congressional primary in Florida. The Democratic presidential nominee visited Wasserman Schulz’s campaign headquarters on Tuesday, one day after appearing at a rally with the father of slain Orlando nightclub terrorist Seddique Mateen.

“Please do everything you can to make sure Debbie has a resounding victory on August 30th,” Clinton told a group of DWS supporters. Shortly after Wasserman Schultz resigned from the DNC, Clinton made her an honorary co-chair of her presidential campaign.

The Democratic primary battle for Wasserman Schultz’s is a microcosm of the contentious Clinton-Sanders primary race, and a reminder of the lingering tensions within the party.

Bernie Sanders, whose supporters are not a fan of the former DNC chair for obvious reasons, has endorsed Wasserman Schultz’s primary opponent, Tim Canova, and has fundraised on his behalf. A number of former Bernie staffers are working on Canova’s campaign.

Canova has seen a fundraising windfall in the wake of the DNC email scandal, and appears have an outside shot at defeating the incumbent.
