Republican frontrunner and insecure billionaire Donald Trump insists he is the best candidate to face Hillary Clinton in the general election because all the polls show him beating her head-to-head.

“Many, many polls show me beating Hillary easily,” Trump said Tuesday during a rally in Florida to celebrate his primary wins in Michigan and Mississippi.

That statement, like many Trump has made over the course of his campaign for president, is unequivocally false.

The Real Clear Politics polling database lists 48 polls taken since May 2015 that include a general election match-up between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Trump leads in just five of those polls, the most recent of which was published in mid-February.

On average, the polls show Clinton beating Trump by five percentage points.

Two polls published Wednesday (and not included in the RCP average) show Trump losing to Clinton by double digits. An NBC/Wall Street Journal poll shows Trump losing 38 percent to 51 percent, while an ABC News/Washington Post poll has him losing 36 percent to 54 percent.

As it stands, Republican voters are poised to nominate one of the only politicians in the country (Trump) who is viewed less favorably than Hillary Clinton.
