Gun Stocks Surge Following Orlando Shooting

Gun manufacturers saw their stock prices surge in the wake of the shooting at an Orlando gay club that claimed 50 lives early Sunday morning.

Sales a major gun makers Smith & Wesson and Sturm, Ruger climbed nearly 10 percent on Monday.

Gun stocks have experienced similar price jumps following other mass shootings, as investors anticipate an increase in gun sales spurred by fears that the government will move to limit the availability of firearms. And sales of guns and ammo typically do rise after large-scale shootings.

“There will likely be heightened consumer rears about gun control,” one Wall Street analyst told CNN. “It could temporarily increase demand, especially since [Hillary] Clinton has made gun control one of her platforms.”
