Royal Crush: Donald Trump’s Creepy Obsession with Princess Diana

Billionaire Donald Trump doesn’t have many regrets in life, but he really wishes Princess Diana could’ve had the pleasure of dating him before she died.

Over the years, Trump has repeatedly described Princess Diana’s tragic death in 1997 as a tragedy for him personally. For example, Trump explained in a Dateline interview just weeks after Diana’s death that he “would have loved to have had a shot to date her.”

“Do you think you would have had a shot?” asked Dateline host Stone Phillips, to which The Donald replied: “I think so, yeah. I always have a shot.”

Trump had a similar, more explicit exchange with radio shock jock Howard Stern in an another interview that also took place weeks after the fatal car crash that killed Diana and her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, in Paris.

“You could’ve gotten her, right? You could’ve nailed her,” Stern said.

Trump concurred.

In a separate interview with Stern years later, Trump described Diana as “crazy, but these are minor details.” Trump said he would have slept with Princess Diana “without even hesitation.”

Trump added: “She was really beautiful and people don’t realise how beautiful she was. She was super-model beautiful, she had the height, she had the beauty, she had the skin, she had the whole thing.”

The trophy wife that got away?

Trump was compelled to mention Diana in his 1997 book, The Art of The Comeback, published shortly after her death. “I only have one regret in the woman department, that I never had the opportunity to court Lady Diana Spencer,” he wrote.

The real estate mogul reportedly did try to court Diana after her marriage to Prince Charles broke down in the mid-1990s. According to former BBC broadcaster Selina Scott, Trump “bombarded” Diana with flowers and pursued her to the point of “stalking.”

“Trump clearly saw Diana as the ultimate trophy wife,” Scott wrote in the Sunday Times in August 2015. “As the roses and orchids piled up at her apartment she became increasingly concerned … ‘What am I going to do?’ she asked. ‘He gives me the creeps.'”
