Donald Trump is doubling (tripling?) down on his suggestion that President Obama is either a sympathetic observer or, perhaps, a loyal agent of the terrorist group ISIS.
Trump on Wednesday tweeted a link to a Breitbart article highlighting a “secret memo” about the Obama administration’s “support” for ISIS, and implied that was “right” about the president’s allegiance to terrorists.
The 2012 memo states that a precursor to ISIS was among the groups fighting to overthrow Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, many of which were at least nominally supported by Western governments.
In response to the deadly terror attack at an Orlando gay bar over the weekend, Trump said there was “something going on” with Obama in terms of the way he deals with Islamic terrorism. “He doesn’t get it or he gets it better than anybody understands—it’s one or the other, and either one is unacceptable,” Trump said.
The Washington Post ran a headline that described Trump’s remarks as having linked Obama to the perpetrator of the Orlando attack, who declared allegiance to ISIS. Trump responded by revoking the Post‘s press credentials for his campaign events, based on the newspaper’s “incredibly inaccurate coverage and reporting of the record setting Trump campaign.”
Now he seems to be saying that he was right all along, that Obama does support ISIS, but it was irresponsible for the Washington Post to suggest that.
This is a fun election.
