Members of the media are very upset that Donald Trump does not give them the respect they think they deserve. They want us all to know that they’re serious people doing a seriously important job and that everyone should take them seriously because serious journalism is important.

Unfortunately, the media’s coverage of Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy has done little to bolster the claim that the media deserve our respect. For example:

It’s a bit rich to obsess over Donald Trump’s every move and utterance, on Twitter or otherwise, to provide wall-to-wall coverage of a dead gorilla, and then get all upset when people refuse to take you seriously because you’re just doing your (very important) job.
