Donald Trump celebrated clinching the Republican nomination for president on Thursday by eating McDonald’s on his private jet and posting a photo to his Instagram account.

While most people commented on the Big Mac and Freedom Fries, there was another, more interesting component to The Donald’s celebratory feast: Diet Coke.

Judging from his Twitter history, Trump has a long history (and short fingers) with the beverage.
I have never seen a thin person drinking Diet Coke.

This is actually one of his most well-known Twitter contributions. We would have to agree with you, Donald. Your recent photo certainly argues in support of this observation.

Trump’s follow-up Tweets, on the other hand, have received far less attention. They appear to reveal an individual dealing with a lot of internal anguish over the fact that constantly drinking Diet Coke has failed to make a dent in his flubby waist line.
Lots of response to my comment on Diet Coke- let's face it, it doesn't work- just makes you hungry.

The more Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, etc you drink, the more weight you gain?

People are going crazy with my comments on Diet Coke (soda). Let's face it–this stuff just doesn't work. It makes you hungry.

Trump’s remarks carry the authority of someone speaking from personal experience, who has clearly suffered a great deal of personal anxiety about his weight. Maybe that’s why he felt the need to call out a “seriously overweight” protestor who was forcibly removed from one of his campaign rallies.
If elected, Donald Trump would become the first obese American to occupy the White House since William Howard Taft.
FACT CHECK: Donald Trump is not a thin person.
