Four years ago, Donald Trump was asked to weigh in on the second inauguration of President Obama, who had just defeated Republican Mitt Romney in a hard fought campaign.
Rather than trash the president, or question his legitimacy, or complain about the election results, Trump argued it was time for Americans of all political stripes to come together and support Obama.
“Well, first of all, we wish the president luck,” Trump said during an interview on Inauguration Day in 2013. “We have a lot of problems in the country, a lot of problems in the world, frankly, and we hope he does a great job. Whether you’re Republican, Democrat, or other, we want him to do a fantastic job, at least I do.”
Democrats might want to follow that advice. In the run-up to Trump’s inauguration on January 20, many Democrats are refusing to accept his legitimacy, and are boycotting the ceremony like a bunch of spoiled children.
