Democratic legislators endured a 23-hour sit-in on the floor of the US House of Representatives in an effort to force Republicans to call a vote on gun control.
At least, the protest’s perks were decent.
While Democrats held their ground on the “no fly, no buy” bill that would prevent people on the government’s notorious “no fly list” from legally purchasing weapons, they noshed on a catered buffet in the House cloakroom that included pizza from DC staple We The Pizza, as well as appetizers, chicken kebabs, grilled vegetables and an array of appetizers.
Now, a buffet is not the dining option of choice for most Members of Congress, who have private dining facilities at most high-end DC restaurants, so perhaps it can be considered a form of suffering to have to fight Elizabeth Warren for the last piece of pepperoni. But We The Pizza pizza is preeeetty tasty.
Once the Congressmen had had their fill, they were provided with hand- (or, at least, intern-) fluffed down pillows while they camped out for the night—a development that at least one network considered breaking news.
Notice that Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (in the tweet above) was also wearing a pink suit. No word on whether anyone used the bedding to build themselves a sweet pillow fort.
Republicans, not interested in joining the all-night protest, nevertheless sought out their own creature comforts.
Fancy.
