The Hillary Clinton campaign tweeted a photo Tuesday evening of a Muslim woman who appeared to be overcome with emotion at the thought of a second Clinton winning the presidency.
Turns out, the distressed woman is actually a die-hard Bernie fan—who wasn’t too thrilled about her image being co-opted by the Clinton campaign.

The woman crying in this photo is Nida Allam, a Bernie Sanders Delegate from North Carolina. “All of a sudden I get this tweet like, ‘Hey Nida, check this out,’ and I open it and it’s Hillary for America with a picture of me just crying. And I was like … I was shocked, because they’re trying to make it seem like I’m crying out of support for her,” Allam said in an interview with NowThis Election.
“When I saw her tweet I was disgusted inside because these were my raw emotions. They want to put that out like, ‘Oh, the first female president, a Muslim woman supports her,’” said Allam during the same interview.
Allam says she will be voting for Hillary in November—but not because it’s her first choice. “I am a Bernie supporter so I will do what Bernie wants us to do to continue his revolution, which is in this case to vote for Hillary,” said Allam.
