An elite university in Cleveland is offering a “safe space” for student traumatized by this week’s Republican National Convention in the beautiful lakeside metropolis.

Case Western Reserve University, a fancy private school that costs more than $60,000 per year to attend, announced in a campus-wide newsletter that the university’s Social Justice Institute would “host a ‘safe space'” in the basement of Crawford Hall during the Republican convention taking place a few miles down the road at Quicken Loans Arena.

The university is also continuing its counseling services for students who “want to talk to someone about their concerns” related to the convention.

Most classes at Case Western have been cancelled this week in an effort to reduce “on-campus operations” during the convention, an event “that is expected to draw dozens of protests—and could see a significant degree of conflict,” the newsletter explained.

University officials agreed to essentially cancel activities during the convention after students protested the university’s decision to allow some police officers working at the convention to stay on campus. Some students complained that the prospect of an increased police presence on campus caused them to “fear for their safety.”
