Chris Matthews, a person who yells on television for a living, shocked viewers of MSNBC’s Election Night coverage Tuesday night with a random anecdote about former President John F. Kennedy watching porn in West Virginia with former Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee.

Matthews began by discuss the various Election Night rituals that politicians perform on Election Night. “There’s something about the whole ritual, like concession speeches, which I love, I’ve said that before, and crying when you lose. These are very important rituals,” he said.

The pundit man went on to talk about how some politicians deal with the anxiety filled dead time on Election Night’s when votes are still being counting. For example, one of his former bosses, Democratic Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill, used to go out to dinner as the results were coming in, Matthews said.

John F. Kennedy, however, had a more X-rated routine.

“Jack Kennedy did this [with] Ben Bradley, his buddy, they went up to see a porn movie in West Virginia,” Matthews said. “They didn’t want to be anywhere near news.”

It wasn’t even a nice porno theater, Matthews explained to his fellow panelists, who were somewhat shocked by the random anecdote. “They tried to go to a nice one and that was closed, they couldn’t get in, so they went to the other one,” Matthews said.
