Justin Trudeau, the baby-faced and perpetually “woke” prime minister of Canada, jabbed President Donald Trump on Twitter in response to the recently announced White House policy banning refugees from certain countries from entering the United States.
“To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength,” wrote Trudeau on Twitter, adding the hashtag, #WelcomeToCanada.
Social media users had different reactions to Trudeau’s tweeting. Some members of the U.S. media praised it as good “trolling” amid their complaints about Trump’s refugee policy. “This is what makes Canada so great!!!!” wrote one Tweeter. A Canadian Trump fan disagreed, telling Trudeau: “Sharia law will be our downfall.”
Many U.S. liberals have grown to admire Trudeau for his boyish good looks and his commitment to social justice. He is the candidate they wish the Democrat Party could have nominated, because even through he also comes from a political dynasty (his father was also prime minister), Trudeau is much more exciting than Hillary Clinton. For example, he sometimes jumps out of caves and photobombs wedding photos on the beach, often without wearing a shirt.
Not everyone in Canada is such a big fan of Trudeau, however. Wealthy businessman and television personality Kevin O’Leary recently announced a bid to challenge Trudeau as leader of the Conservative Party. O’Leary has been described as the “Canadian Donald Trump.”
