After Brexit, Is ‘Texit’ Next?

Many were surprised to learn that British voters had decided to withdraw from the European Union in an historic referendum on Thursday. Others were inspired.

The success of the so-called “Brexit” campaign in the UK has prompted groups and individuals in favor of independence for the state of Texas to start a campaign for “Texit” — some more earnestly than others.

The Texas Nationalist Movement, a group whose president said the Brexit campaign was inspiring efforts to wrest control of the Lone Star State from  “unelected bureaucrats in Washington,” is going all in, according to its Facebook page.

The #Texit hashtag was heating up on Twitter early Friday as the United States woke up to news of Brexit’s success.

Some people were a little taken aback.

Might not be the worst idea. After all, the two people most likely to become president of the 49 other states are Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
