Clinton Foundation donors accounted for more than half the individuals outside the government who met with Hillary Clinton during her tenure as secretary of state, an analysis by the Associate Press has found.
AP reports that at least 85 of the 154 people representing private interests who had in-person meetings or phone conversations with Clinton at the State Department had donated money to the Clinton Foundation or pledged funds to its programs. These 85 donors contributed as much as $156 million to the foundation; 20 donated more than $1 million each.
These figures do not include the individuals from foreign governments who met with Clinton when she was secretary of state, although the AP calculated that she met with representatives from at least 16 countries whose governments donated up to $170 million to the Clinton Foundation.
Among the donors who got time with Clinton were an economist who was being pressured by the government of Bangladesh to resign from a nonprofit bank he ran, and, per the AP, “a Wall Street executive with a visa problem.”
The report is just the latest in a series of revelations about the Clinton Foundation and its extensive network of donors overlapped with Hillary Clinton’s role as the nation’s top diplomat. Recently release emails, for example, show how one of Clinton’s top aides at the State Department performed favors for Clinton Foundation donors who were also clients of a consulting firm run by Doug Band, a former adviser to President Bill Clinton.
