ANALYSIS: 6 Reasons the White House Is the Ideal Residence for Seniors

When former Senator Strom Thurmond was preparing to run for a seventh term at the age of 93, the Senate effectively functioned as his nursing home. As Newsweek wrote in a 1996 profile of the now-deceased career legislator from South Carolina: “Thanks to the perks of office, the only thing he must do alone is dress in the morning and go to bed at night.”

It’s true. The Senate provides a very comfortable and accommodating environment for elderly politicians to spend their days. There is perhaps only one other institution that can top it for the honor of “Best Nursing Home in America.”

The White House.

That’s great news for the elderly candidates trying to gain admission into the presidential residence in 2017, and especially for Hillary Clinton, 68, the candidate most likely to win the election in November.

Here are six reasons why the White House is the perfect residence for seniors.

1) Elevators

The White House elevators provide effortless transportation between floors of the residence, and are large enough to accommodate a wheel chair. President Obama doesn’t need the elevator for any physical reasons, but he takes it sometimes just for fun!

2) Securely Gated Facilities

The secure gates at the White House are great for keeping out unwanted intruders, but they are also, from a senior living perspective, a handy tool for preventing elderly residents or visitors who might be suffering from dementia from wandering off the property grounds. Safety first!

3) World Class Healthcare

The White House Medical Unit provides free high-quality healthcare to the president and his (or her!) immediate families. Staffed by more than 20 physicians and nurses, part of the unit’s duties include ensuring that the president, when traveling, is never more than 20 minutes away from a top-rated hospital and trauma facility.

4) Flexible Living Arrangements

The White House gives seniors control over how they live their lives. Married residents may live together if they wish, but the abundance of guest rooms and sleeping quarters, including the renowned Lincoln Bedroom, give couples the option of sleeping separately if they prefer.

5) Recreational Activities

The White House pool is great for muscle-firming activities such as water aerobics, while the in-house bowling alley is the perfect place to blow off some steam and have a little fun, just like Harry Truman used to do!

6) Pillows

No matter how hard the lamestream media tries to ignore the facts, the evidence is clear: Hillary Clinton often sits on (or surrounded by) pillows.

There are more than enough pillows in the White House to accommodate the needs of senior residents and their guests. Some of the chairs are pretty fancy, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be comfortable too!

Donald Trump is also very old.
