  1. Home
  2. Life

The President and First Lady won’t move far from the White House for the first year after he leaves office. They will lease a well-appointed Tudor in DC’s Kalorama neighborhood while they wait for their daughter Sasha to finish school at Sidwell Friends.

According to POLITICO, Barack and Michelle Obama will lease a $6.4 million, nine-bedroom, eight-and-a-half bath home from former Clinton Press Secretary Joe Lockhart and his wife, Giovanna Gray Lockhart, the DC editor for Glamour magazine. The Lockharts moved to New York City earlier this year after Lockhart took a job as Vice President of communications for the NFL. They bought the home for $5.9 million in 2014.

The home is in a “quiet neighborhood” across from Rock Creek Park and is nestled among the homes of foreign dignitaries—so Obama’s Secret Service security detail won’t be noticed (or block neighborhood traffic). The Obamas reportedly worked with the Lockharts to secure the lease, and will take over in January.

There are plenty of photos of the home online, and it’s got just about everything an ex president would want: a solarium, a 10-car garage, a media room with a wet bar, and a full in-law suite so that Mrs. Obama’s mother can continue to live with the pair after they vacate the official residence (President Obama will, no doubt, be thrilled).
