A McDonald’s employee in Florida is being called a hero after he jumped through the drive-thru window to save the life of an off-duty police officer who had lost consciousness as her kids were sitting in the back of the car.

Pedro Viloria was working at a McDonald’s in Doral, Florida, Tuesday morning when he noticed the customer in the drive-thru was breathing abnormally. As he was about to hand the woman her food, she become unconscious, her foot easing off the brake, which caused the car to move forward. That’s when Viloria jumped into action.

Security footage shows Viloria vaulting out of the drive-thru window to help, and the woman’s car narrowly missing the car in front of it. Viloria then rushed inside to find help. Once inside he found two firefighters eating breakfast as well as an off-duty paramedic who were able to assist the woman. The still-unnamed officer was rushed to the hospital; her condition remains unknown.

Alex Melendez, the owner of the McDonald’s outlet, issued a statement about the incident

First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the officer and her family during this difficult time. I think I speak for our McDonald’s family when I say how proud we are of Pedro. He is an excellent employee, so it didn’t surprise me that he took immediate action and jumped through a window to help save this woman. And he was not the only member of the team that played a pivotal role in ensuring she received the medical attention she needed. A second employee, who asked to remain unnamed, assisted with CPR. Their quick thinking and action were everything in that moment.

“If I had to die to save that woman I would have,” Viloria said.
