According to the San Francisco Gate, a warehouse being used as an “artists’ collective” where as many as 40 people may have died in a fire at an electronic music party, was known as the Oakland Ghost Ship.

The person who was allegedly running the space, Derick Ion, has turned up in the aftermath of the blaze with a self-centered Facebook Post (currently public, preserved below in case it’s deleted).

“Everything I worked so hard for is gone. Blessed that my children and Micah were at a hotel safe and sound,” Ion wrote on Facebook. “It’s as if I have awoken from a dream filled with opulence and hope…. to be standing now in poverty of self worth.”

Commenters were not kind — many seeming particularly upset that the post was all about Ion, as opposed to the many victims of the fire.

This post validifies you’re an asshole,” one wrote.

Another wrote: “Derek Ion, Murderer: 9 people confirmed, 40 missing total.

Yet another wrote: “You are the worst excuse for a human being. YOU put all all these people in danger.”

This story is still developing…
