The body of a 65-year-old man was discovered Wednesday in the closet of a New Jersey high school.
Academy of the Holy Angels administrators contacted police around 11:45 a.m. after the man’s body was found at the all-girls school in Demarest, New Jersey.
Police said that they do not believe the man “had passed recently,” relative to the time they were notified, according to NJ.com.
While police investigated, students and staff were instructed to stay in their classrooms. They were later brought to the school’s auditorium, where they were notified about the death.
“We assessed very quickly that the students were not in any type of danger,” Police Chief James Powderley III told.
The 65-year-old man was later identified as a Cablevision contractor from New York. His name has not been released.
According to police, his body was brought to the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The cause of death is under investigation.
“We wanted to make sure we identified who came in contact with the body and witnesses. All of that is part of the investigation moving forward” Powderly told The Record.
Students were allowed to resume class Wednesday and were released at their regular dismissal time.
