An Apple employee has been found dead in a conference room at the company’s California headquarters, a day after the company reported its first quarterly revenue decline in more than a decade.

A police spokeswoman said a Hispanic male was found dead with a wound to the head after deputies responded to an emergency call to the Cupertino campus about 8:30am on Wednesday morning, KTVU reports.

A gun was reportedly found nearby. The spokeswoman said police believed the death was an isolated incident, there were no wanted suspects in the area and there was no threat to anyone at the campus or the public.

She said investigators would be looking at many factors that could have led to the apparent suicide, including Apple’s recent stock loss.

Apple shares lost more than $US40 billion ($52.64 billion) in market value after the company reported its first-ever quarterly drop in iPhone sales and its first year-on-year sales decline in 13 years, the New York Post reported.

The seven per cent drop was the worst single-day decline since January 2014, when shares in the world’s most valuable company fell eight per cent after the company reported disappointing results.

Apple sold 51.2 million iPhones in the first three months of the year compared with 61.2 million in the same period last year. Revenue increased 12 per cent to $US50.6 billion ($66.59 billion) but Apple warned of further sales declines to come.
