The clownpocalypse continues.

Police in Athens, Georgia are on the lookout for five clowns driving around in a white panel van who terrorized a group of kids earlier this week.

According to a report in the Red & Black newspaper, the five people dressed as clowns and wearing masks set upon a group of 7- to 10-year-old kids as they came out of the East Athens Community Center. The kids “fled in terror” to their respective homes, according to the police.

A woman who overheard the kids talking about the incident and reported it to police said she had seen the white panel van cruising up and down a nearby street earlier in the day, but thought nothing of it at the time.

Police did not say whether the descriptions of the clowns matched that of 25-year-old Jacob Worthington, who was arrested in Athens earlier this year after he fired up a meth pipe at the counter of a local Waffle House. He, too, was dressed as a clown at the time of his arrest.

The incident follows a number of similar reports around the country in recent weeks, including one in nearby South Carolina in which clowns were said to be attempting to lure children into the woods there and another in North Carolina where a machete-wielding man chased a red-headed clown into the woods.

The rampant coulrophobia – the fear of clowns – has even spread beyond the United States to the United Kingdom.
