Plans are under way to open a strip club seven nights a week opposite Windsor Castle, one of the Queen’s best-loved residences.
The club – called Studio 15 – would offer lap dances until 5am. It is situated underneath the Royal Shopping Centre, which is part of Windsor & Eton railway station.
It is estimated to be just 150 paces from the grounds of Windsor Castle. Residents of the town of Windsor are said to be deeply unhappy at the club’s application for a sexual entertainment licence, which will be discussed by officials from the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead on February 7.
Local Tory councillor Shamsul Shelim told the Sun newspaper: “We have the monarch living close by and we don’t want to give tourists the wrong idea. It is simply not acceptable for the town people.” And fellow councillor Jack Rankin said: “I object in the strongest possible manner. This is totally out of keeping with the locality.”
Another lap dancing venue, the Pink Gentlemen’s Club, is already open half a mile from the castle.
Windsor Castle was originally built in the 11th century and has been used by reigning monarchs since the time of Henry I.
Representatives from Studio 15 did not comment.
