While most enjoyed the new demo for Nier: Automata for its smooth controls and beautiful design, others had baser thoughts on their mind.
The female robot protaganist, 2B, while being a badass killer with a huge sword, also is dressed like a french maid with skimpy panties. Some DISGUSTING gamers decided to torque the camera at unnatural angles to get a look at what was underneath the hood, and one guy on 8chan allegedly found the shadings of a butthole!

The image went viral and discussion around the image soon became known as “the Nier butthole discourse.”

The existence of a shaded butthole led some to fear that the game would be censored in Western versions, something which regularly happens when games are imported from Japan. Some speculated that not only would the butthole be bowdlerized, but the entire sexy killer lady robot outfit as well!
The plot thickened when some brave soul did extensive image analysis on the butthole and determined it was a forgery. The original poster may have photoshopped the shadings for a laugh.
