When Annella Kaine watches her father Virginia Senator Tim Kaine address the Democratic National Convention tonight she will naturally be filled with pride.

But the DNC is not her kind of show, and the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia is not her kind of venue. Annella, 21, has just completed her third year studying theater at NYU and wants to be a Broadway actress upon graduating next year.

“Her dream is to make it in musicals,” a classmate tells Heat Street, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Kaine studies at the Atlantic Acting School’s NYU theater program and lives in Greenwich Village. In common with other offspring of this year’s election candidates, she tries her best to steer clear of scandal.

“She’s very conscientious,” says the friend. “Her idea of a late night out is to stay at the Drama Bookshop until closing time. Her biggest vice is making stained glass.”

The friend adds Annella has recently appeared in plays at the Atlantic Acting Studio, including Craig Lucas’s Reckless and Federico Garcia Lorca’s Spanish Civil War drama  The House of Bernada Alba. She also played a zombie in vampire stage spoof  Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom.

The Atlantic Theater was co-founded by David Mamet, who himself has undergone a high-profile conversion to conservatism. Its previous productions include political thriller Farragut North by Beau Willimon, which was adapted into the George Clooney movie The Ides of March.

Alumni of the theater program she is taking include Elizabeth Olsen and Twilight actor Peter Facinelli. Kaine developed the acting bug while growing up in Virginia, appearing in various amateur productions as a teenager.

The friend adds that the exposure she is receiving is great for her own career. “She’s popular enough at NYU but she’s not considered one of the breakout stars of the year,” the friend adds. “She’s never acted on the big Atlantic stage for instance, only at the smaller venues.”

Kaine has gone to ground since the announcement of her father’s selection as VP, not posting anything on Facebook. But she previously demonstrated her musical ability on Facebook in a video uploaded by interestingly named arts group Cunnilingus Curated, which quoted her as saying, “I can put a melody together.”

Should her father be elected Vice President, Annella has a dilemma. After graduation, she had been telling friends she was considering moving to the West Coast and applying to Atlantic’s program in Los Angeles, which has a great track record for providing its students with film and TV work.

Yet VP Kaine might wish for all of his closely-knit family to be resident with him in DC.
