UPDATE:  Tippi Hedren has clarified to Heat Street she was not endorsing Donald Trump.

She said: “Clearly my comments about Donald Trump were misrepresented as a political endorsement. My parents instilled in me, from an early age, to always try and say nice things about everyone and to avoid negative remarks, especially around election time and never about politics. Although, some may debate that I’ve not always been successful at keeping my opinions to myself.

“My ONLY political interests involve legislation that protects our wild ones.  As a devoted animal rights activist for my entire adult life, I am horrified by the idea of anyone who supports or participates in trophy hunting!!! In addition, it is incomprehensible that I, as a victim myself, would ever endorse the sexual harassment of women.

“Please, do not misrepresent anything I say as a political endorsement for either party.”

Welcome news for Donald Trump: former model and actress Tippi Hedren has come out in support of him.

The 86-year-old star of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 classic The Birds did not mince her words as she told the London Sunday Times: “I always have Fox News on. Elections are such a folly. I adore Trump. I hope he wins and think he would do a great job. Other Republicans might be against him, that’s their problem.”

The endorsement of Hedren – mother of actress Melanie Griffith – is perhaps all the more surprising because she has recently claimed that she was on the receiving end of unwanted physical attention from Hitchcock when they worked together in the 1960s.

Trump, as is well known, has not made it through the presidential campaign without various accusations of sexual misconduct being levelled at him.

Yet Hedren has apparently been prepared to overlook those allegations.

Hillary Clinton has been endorsed by a galaxy of stars in recent days including Katy Perry, Jay-Z and Beyonce.

Trump gets Tippi Hedren.
