Today is a day Tom Hiddleston would like to forget.
The posh English Marvel actor woke up to embarrassing headlines that his pop star girlfriend, Taylor Swift, has dumped him because she had grown increasingly uncomfortable with his desire to be “so public” and didn’t share his penchant for publicity.
Nonsense say those close to Hiddleston. A theater producer who collaborated with Hiddleston on Coriolanus told Heat Street: “The reports are wide of the mark and come as news to all Tom’s friends. He grew tired of Taylor, it wasn’t the other way round.”
“Tom drifted from her and it had nothing to do with her being put off by the publicity. It’s more to do with the fact he’s a commitment-phobe who gets bored very easily.”
The source added that Hiddleston’s friends jokingly refer to the “three month rule,” the point at which he grows tired with girlfriends: “Even his sisters affectionately chide him on his lack of relationship staying power.”
“They had a short break together in Rhode Island last month but it didn’t go that well because Tom was fixated with his fitness regime for Thor: Ragnorak, much to her displeasure. They agreed to end the relationship over the phone a few weeks later.”
The 35-year-old is apparently perplexed at reports Taylor was put off by his publicity. “Taylor has done to him what she claims Calvin Harris has done to her,” the source adds. “But Tom will be upset that the reports have completely overshadowed a video he released to publicize UNICEF today.”
Hiddleston is currently in the running to be the seventh James Bond and the Taylor Swift relationship reports did not do that aspiration any harm. But he has told friends he doesn’t think he’s producer Barbara Broccoli’s first choice to be 007.
Hiddleston confirmed the relationship to The Hollywood Reporter in July, telling them: “Look, the truth is that Taylor Swift and I are together, and we’re very happy.”
“Tom’s got a lot to say privately about Taylor,” the source adds. But just don’t expect him to say too much in the open when he next does the promotional rounds for the release of Kong: Skull Island next March.
He’ll certainly have emotionally moved on by then.
