Poor Prince Harry spent the weekend complaining to Barack Obama how hard it is for him to find a job.

But his troubles may be over – producers are ‘close to a deal’ with Britain’s unmarried Prince Charming Harry to present a Downtown Abbey style history show.

The proposed film has a “historical” dimension and would be broadcast in Britain, initially.

Having had a lot of exposure on TV over the last 12 months as a contributor to documentaries, including Channel 4’s Battle of Britain documentary last September and the BBC’s tribute to the Queen’s 90th birthday last month, Harry is apparently considered a “natural” presenter.

A source close to the deal told Heat Street: “We know he is very keen to do more broadcasting work, and he could easily fit his royal duties in around the filming schedule.”

The fifth in line to the throne, who opened the Invictus Games for injured veterans in Orlando, Florida last night with Michelle Obama and George W. Bush, tackled his employment problems with characteristic directness.

He told the Sunday Times: “There’s a lot of people out there who view us, the younger generation of the monarchy, [and say,] ‘Well, you’ve had a job, so why wouldn’t you have another job?’

“I thought long and hard about getting a job. I did 10 years in the army — best job in the world…I don’t get any satisfaction from sitting at home on my arse — and that’s a body part by the way, not a swearword.”

So what’s prevented him from finding full-time work?

Apparently it’s the difficulty of combining a profession with his royal duties.

He added: “The reality is that most of the areas that I looked at . . . just simply weren’t going to work. Some jobs are not even on the table, sadly.”

Help may be at hand.
