The real feminist book store Portlandia parodies may more outrageous than the actual show.

In Other Words, the Portland bookstore featured in many episodes, seems to have severed ties with the show and will no longer allow them to film there, according to Willamette Week.

They made it clear by hanging a sign that read: “Fuck Portlandia! Transmisogyny – Racism – Gentrification – Queer Antagonism – Devaluation of Feminist Discourse.”

When Willamette Week reached out to the bookstore for comment, they made an even more ridiculous statement:

After some consideration and research we’ve decided to officially tell the Willamette Weekly to go fuck themselves. Your paper has absolutely zero journalistic professionalism and you are scummy rape apologists. Thanks for the opportunity tho! Have a great night.

In Other Words finally released a statement on their blog, saying that the show doesn’t give them enough money, contributes to gentrification, and sucks:

The Women and Women First segments that are filmed at In Other Words are trans-antagonistic and trans-misogynist and have only become more offensive as the show goes on. ‘LOL Fred Armisen in a wig and a dress’ is a deeply shitty joke whose sole punchline throws trans femmes under the bus by holding up their gender presentation for mockery and ridicule.

The feminist bookstore, apparently, doesn’t feel quite as offended by Portlandia co-star (and feminist) Carrie Brownstein’s portrayal of “The Pullout King”:

It’s truly a case of life imitating art imitating life.
