The Grammys are getting absolutely eviscerated on every level. Not only were their various technical mishaps and human errors truly cringeworthy, terrible moments, many believe the most important award of the evening went to the wrong person. And the wrong person for spurious and racist reasons.
Once again Beyonce was “robbed” of a Grammy, this time by Adele, and unfortunately Kanye West was not present to set the record straight.
Adele is a queen.
Beyonce was robbed.
The #Grammys have a horrible race problem that needs to be addressed. https://t.co/JvtiqcW6ul pic.twitter.com/ofllyLvouE— Kevin Fallon (@kpfallon) February 13, 2017

In her acceptance speech Adele did all but explicitly apologize to Beyonce. “But I can’t possibly accept this award,” Adele said. “I’m very grateful and gracious but the artist of my life is Beyonce and the album Lemonade was just so monumental.”
This isn’t even the first time a white artist apologized for snubbing a black artist out of a Grammy. Macklemore actually texted Kendrick Lamar after he beat him out for best rap album of the year.

Whether or not the Grammys voters are racist, it’s pretty clear they’re garbage at picking winners. Throughout its history, the album of the year has mostly gone to popular music that doesn’t offend the sensibilities of too many voters.
Beyonce’s Lemonade was brash, political and transgressive and sought to do something new. Of course, the boring, elderly Grammy voters wouldn’t take the risk.
