2016 has claimed the lives of many a celebrity. From David Bowie and Prince to Alan Rickman and Carrie Fisher, it seems like no one who shaped our childhoods and adolescent years is safe this year.

And so as the year ends, a South Carolina man is pleading to the universe to spare at least one life in the remaining few days of 2016: Betty White. The actress and star of The Golden Girls turned 94 this year, and she’s the grandmother we all wish we had.

In his post on GoFundMe, Demetrios Hyrsikos wrote: “Help 2016 catch these hands if it goes anywhere near Betty White! If she’s okay with it I will fly to where ever Betty White is and keep her safe till Jan. 1, 2017.”

His pleas echo that of many others, who’ve taken to social media to beg 2016 not to lay its cold fingers around Betty White.

The campaign, which was only just launched, has collected around $100 as of this writing and is shooting for a $2000 goal, the proceeds of which will go entirely to the Spartanburg Little Theater, a local youth theater company in Spartanburg, SC.

Visitors who’ve checked out the GoFundMe campaign had a mixed variety of responses, with some suggesting that the money should go to a charity chosen by Betty White. A few expressed their doubts. Other comments applauded Hyrsikos for the quaint effort.

The universe will, of course, take as it chooses—but perhaps it’ll deign to listen to this concerted prayer.
