Jimmy Fallon attempted to stay out of politics during the election on The Tonight Show—to the annoyance of many on the left. He was even accused of the mortal sin of “humanizing” Donald Trump when he tousled his hair during an interview. The Tonight Show had always been apolitical, even under Jay Leno. It was a place where all Americans could escape from politics and just laugh.
But now Fallon has changed gears. Last night, he mocked Trump on actual policies, namely the travel ban on seven Muslim countries. Some libs are still pissed at Fallon’s past treatment of Trump and believe Fallon’s jokes are too little, too late.
Dear @jimmyfallon, you're not allowed to humanize @realDonaldTrump and then make this joke as him on your show: https://t.co/u4I6TJP1qQ pic.twitter.com/2vA0hFuj0r

Matt Wilstein of The Daily Beast says Fallon is “not allowed” to joke about Trump after not joking about him and treating him like a real person during the election. Wilstein also doesn’t understand a certain amendment to the U.S. Constitution that apparently allows Fallon to do that very thing! Who knew?
“Not only did Fallon comically muss Trump’s hair like he was an adorable toddler, but he failed to press him on any substantive issues even though he knew millions would be watching,” Wilstein wrote.
He also blamed Fallon for swinging the vote of one random dude in Virginia who voted for Trump because he seemed “very humble” on The Tonight Show.
The music mag Spin also took jabs at Fallon for some reason, calling Trump his “favorite fascist.”
“Fallon treats Trump as a wacky but basically harmless avuncular character, rather than the evil maniac he actually is,” the article read. “If he wants to make up for the noogie incident, he’ll have to be a little more cutting, and a little funnier.”
In a Page Six story, an NBC insider alleged the network wanted to take on a more conservative tone by hiring Fox anchors Greta Van Susteren and Megyn Kelly. Perhaps they will have to reign in Fallon and his lukewarm, half-hearted jabs at Trump if they want to achieve that goal. But since Fallon is already in the crosshairs of liberal culture critics, he will probably be grateful to make the switch.
