Angelina Jolie is to be a visiting professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

She will join former foreign secretary and close friend Lord Hague as a lecturer at the university’s Centre for Women, Peace and Security where she will help to teach students studying for a Master’s degree.

In the 20th century, Clement Attlee and Sir Karl Popper were among the staff at this prestigious institution.

Now, the LSE’s proudest boast seems to be this Hollywood actress-cum-refugee rights campaigner.

Heat Street asked the LSE a range of questions about Jolie’s surprise appointment, including whether she applied for the post and what her academic qualifications for it are.

The answer they provided was: “The Visiting Professor in Practice title is for those who have appropriate distinction within their area of practice without having sufficient academic distinction. It includes individuals who may have achieved prominence in public life, or who have attained distinction in their profession. All Visiting Professors in Practice at the Centre for Women, Peace and Security are unpaid. As a Visiting Professor in Practice, Angelina Jolie Pitt will lecture or teach as often as her schedule, and her commitment as agreed with the Centre Director, will allow. She will teach at least once a year, for each year of her fellowship.”

“At least one lecture a year”?

Sounds like a total swizz. And a desperate marketing ploy.

For the record, Jolie’s academic record appears to be patchy – she is not thought to have entered tertiary education – but she has previously admitted to trying to become a funeral director.

She didn’t finish the course.
