Brad Pitt will be the last person this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours drivers see before setting on the grueling race next month.
Race officials have announced the movie star will be the honorary starter on 18 June. Pitt will become the first actor to wave the race’s starting flag since French screen idol Alain Delon took on the task 20 years ago.

The Troy star’s idol Steve McQueen starred in 1971 film Le Mans, which featured footage from the race, while Paul Newman and Patrick Dempsey have both competed in various stages of the race. Dempsey was on the winner’s podium last year after coming in second in his category.
