An English university campus has descended into (online) anarchy over a dad joke posted on a broken vending machine.
Outraged students at the University of Nottingham objected to a notice posted by a member of the catering staff proclaiming the fact that the device had stopped giving out snacks.
It read: “OUT OF ORDER… Takes the money buy gives nothing back (A bit like my wife!!)”
Tiresome and pointless bit of @EverydaySexism from @UoNSU. Surely @UniofNottingham can do better than this? #everydaysexism #ItsANoFromMe pic.twitter.com/kuhGdKWS3w

The light-hearted notice was promptly derided as #everydaysexism in a stern message posted on Twitter which asked searching questions of the authorities.
Within hours of the message being read, student officials removed the notice, and the university moved to reassure onlookers that the saga will not end there.
Along the way the storm in a teacup attracted a fair amount of mockery:

It is not clear what action the university intends to take against its politically incorrect staffer.
University officials would only tellĀ Heat Street that it had referred the matter to the employee’s bosses, who will make their own decision.
It is not the first time university catering staff have been attacked for their lack of wokeness.
Chefs at Pembroke College, Cambridge, were recently attacked by the student body for serving up inauthentic foreign food.
Offensive items on the menu included “Jamaican stew”, “Tunisian rice” and “Oriental beef stew”, all of which were deemed microaggressions.
