Top Democratic Congresswomen who supported “A Day Without A Woman” urging women not to show up at work, actually worked on the day of in question.

The chairwoman of the Democratic Women’s Working Group, Rep. Louis Frankel, said in a statement yesterday that female lawmakers will briefly leave the Congress in support of ADWAW.

The action, organized by the Women’s March, has called women to “take a day off, from paid and unpaid labor” and “avoid shopping for one day”. The website also suggests wearing “red” in solidarity.

The lawmakers that left the Congress included such big names in the Democratic Party as House Minority Rep. Leader Nancy Pelosi, Former DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and others.

Democratic Rep. Katherine Clark addressed a feminist gathering today in Washington, DC and tweeted the live broadcast with the caption “Now LIVE for #DayWithoutAWoman & #InternationalWomensDay. We’re fighting for #PaidLeave #ReproRights #EqualPay & more!”

Another Democrat, Rep. Barbara Lee, also spoke at the gathering and showed support to the day of action. “#IFightFor the millions of women who rely on Social Security. Our moms deserve financial security in their golden years! #DayWithoutAWoman” she tweeted.

While the Democratic congresswomen did indeed temporarily leave to make speeches in support of the action that calls for women to skip a day at work and not to spend money, they quickly returned to work.

Both offices of Lee and Clark have confirmed to Heat Street that the politicians are working today, despite their support for an action calling for a day without work.

According to Rep. Lois Frankel, only a few senators had floated the idea about not working at all, but because of ongoing “mischief” going on in Congress, Frankel told The Hill that abstaining from House votes would “actually be sort of the opposite of what we’re trying to accomplish,” and thus will be continuing working throughout the day.
