A white father-of-four has confessed to staging a hate crime by burning his own car and painting a racial slur on his house’s garage door.

On December 12, David and Jenny Williams of Denton, Texas, reported the supposed hate crime to police after waking up to find their car and motorcycle burned while the racist slur “n***** lovers” was spray-painted across the garage door, according to the Daily Mail.

Mrs. Williams wrote a blog post last week about the alleged hate crime, claiming “It just so happens that we aren’t as racist as someone would like us to be.”

Police viewed the incident as a hate crime and launched an investigation, while the community donated money to the family to help repair the damage and help the Williams’ with Christmas gifts. A GoFundMe page set up by a family member together with a friend has raised more than $5,000.

“The kids won’t be able to have anything under the Christmas tree due to this horrible act,” the page read. “Please if you find it in your heart please donate what you can to help this family of 6 out.”

But on Tuesday last week, Mrs. Williams revealed that it was her husband David who started the fire and sprayed the racist slur on the garage doors.

In a Facebook post, she wrote: “David confessed to spray painting our garage door and starting the fire at our home, Monday December 12th. David is currently at a mental health facility and will be arrested upon his release.”

“The creator of the GoFundMe account has started the process of contacting donors, and returning donated funds,” she added.
