Planned Parenthood Pushing for Gender Neutral Language With Abortions

In 2017 even the gendered language pertaining to abortions is very problematic, apparently. What was once thought of as a very female-centric operation, now must take great care to be inclusive to all gender minorities who so happen to have a uterus and who so happen to have an unwanted pregnancy.

On Monday, Planned Parenthood tweeted out an Everyday Feminism article pushing for “gender neutral” abortion language.

“The truth is that there are transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming people who need abortion access, too—and society’s assumptions about gender are making that really difficult,” the article said.

The article also included a video that addressed the massive problem that abortion documents only have two gender choices on them.

This isn’t the first time Planned Parenthood pushed for gender inclusive language. In November, they referred to people who have periods as “menstruators” to avoid the faux pas of using the outdated term “women.” This created a small backlash from some feminists who felt the term menstruators was derogatory.

Now Planned Parenthood is in a bind to come up with a gender neutral term to refer to people who get abortions, which also won’t offend anyone. Good luck with that.
