Harper Design will be publishing a picture book showing Santa in an interracial gay relationship.
The new book titled “Santa’s Husband” will be available for purchase in October and tells the story of a black Santa Claus and his white husband living in the North Pole. According to the book’s description provided to TIME by Harper Design, Santa’s white husband only fills in for his husband at shopping centers.
The idea of a black gay Santa in an interracial relationship came to author Daniel Kibblesmith, a staff writer for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, when he tweeted how he’d teach his future children that Santa Claus is black.
“If they see a white one, we’ll say ‘That’s his husband,’” Kibblesmith wrote.
The book’s original concept art shows the interracial couple, both wearing Santa suits and looking into each other’s eyes.
The publisher claims the book is for all ages.
