MINDBLOWING: Debate Host Hofstra U Issues ‘Trigger Warning’ For Event

The Commission on Presidential Debates has, for several decades now, held their events at colleges and universities, in part to give students the experience of being part of history and in part because those are traditionally places of robust intellectual discourse and fierce discussion of policy.

Today, that tradition came to a screeching halt, as event administrators at Hofstra University gave in to student concerns about controversial debate content. They felt compelled to post a “trigger warning” outside the student center, warning students that they may be overcome with emotion at possible debate topics.

The Hofstra Student Center is hosting a variety of debate-related activities for students, including a debate watch party and an MTV “Elect This” campaign, which asks students to talk constructively about the issues and register to vote. The sign appeared in front of MTV’s event.

MTV’s Elect This party features a DJ and “virtual reality painting.”

As well as photo opportunities with real-life protesters.

Oh well. Life is triggering.
