Thank God Harambe didn’t have a reddit account.
There’s something unsettling about a living internet meme like Ken Bone. The world projects a two-dimensional image onto a real person, based on a few superficial elements that catch the eye. A red sweater and an “aw shucks” attitude were all it took to get Bone 15 minutes of fame.
But Bone’s shocking downfall is almost as swift as his meteoric rise.
The media and the public started to turn on him with his Uber shilling, when he sent out a Tweet marketing Uber Select. “Ken Bone Sells Out” the headlines read.
Then came his Reddit AMA, which went off without a hitch… until
Gawker’s ghost Gizmodo began looking into his Reddit history and began the character assassination. In past comments Bone ogled preggo porn, admitted to insurance fraud, and in reference to Jennifer Lawrence’s leaked nude photos said, “I saw her butt hole. I liked it.”
Worst of all for many was that Bone said the Trayvon Martin shooting was justified, although he followed it up by saying the shooter George Zimmerman was a terrible person.
The headlines are rolling in to bury the Bone. “Ken Bone is actually kind of an awful guy,” says the NY Post and “Ken Bone isn’t just an undecided voter — he’s an ignorant bonehead,” says NY Daily News on the other side of the political spectrum.
So what will become of the Bonezone? Certainly Uber won’t be paying him for any more tweets. Will an internet mob demand his head, his job?
Ken Bone has tweeted once since his Reddit comments were unearthed, and its clear the internet is turning on him.
@kenbone18 Treyvon Martin would have LOVED this post.

There is no way Bone will be able to continue his stint as America’s lovable undecided voter and will unlikely be able to leverage his 200k+ Twitter followers into further financial success. Hopefully he will be able to return to Midwestern obscurity in peace, but online outrage culture rarely gives disgraced memes that luxury.
And what becomes of the over 4,000 people who bought “Bone” t-shirts? Will all those cotton T’s suffer the same fate as Kony 2012 merch?
Such the internet giveth and the internet taketh away.
