The man, the myth, the legend Hugh Mungus—whose dumb dad joke left a social justice warrior apoplectic—has finally broken his silence.

Weeks ago, Hugh (Real name Rudy Pantoja) was accosted by Zarna Joshi after he gave an interview to a local news station in support of the building of a new police station. Joshi, who opposed the new station, got in Pantoja’s face and demanded his name. With a sheepish grin he replied: “I’m Hugh Mungus,” and thus an Internet star was born. She freaked out and screamed that Pantoja was sexually harassing her, only to be ignored and told to stop yelling by security, while Pantoja cooly strolls out NGAF.

Key points to understand from the interview with an interview with Ethan Klein from H3H3Productions: Before Joshi verbally harassed Pantoja, he was talking to the news about his heroin-addicted daughter, who was taken off the streets by Seattle police and brought into treatment. That’s why he supported the new station.

Second, after Joshi took to Facebook to tell all her followers Pantoja sexually harassed her, Pantoja took the high road and invited her to lunch or coffee to make amends. She refused.

Final point, according to Pantoja, he was not even referring to his penis, but his humongous body. He had just eaten a sizable breakfast and was feeling quite large that day, prompting the reference to his size.

Any way you slice it, Hugh Mungus is a national hero and should be treated as such. May his memory be preserved in the annals of history ever and always. I know Harriet Tubman’s going on the 20, but I’m sure we can work something out to get Hugh on the 10. Let’s make this happen people!
